Learn from nature – do less to make more!

Doesn't sound like the best motivational productivity pep talk you've ever heard does it? But that's what permaculture is all about – learning from nature how to economise our energy input into the world around us and get the best results. And by that we don't mean downing tools on the hour every hour for another Kit-Kat and browse of the red tops – put simply permaculture teaches us to work smarter instead of harder. And although we will be teaching this course on Finlough Farm in the wilds of Roscommon (2 hours from Rathmines by the way), we really want to aim it at those of you who wish to bring sustainable living practices into your city lives. So in that vein we will have a section of the course dedicated to implementing permaculture principles into small living/growing spaces. We will also be looking at the broader scale of the full farm context (all 46 rolling acres) in order to demonstrate how employing permaculture principles can affect a landscape that hasn't seen intensive cultivation or development. The weekend will balance between observing and interacting with the landscape and getting a bit deeper into the principles of permaculture so that we can take back some of these valuable lessons and start to implement them in the context of our own day-to-day. So come one and all this November 6-7 (Saturday and Sunday) to Finlough Farm, Strokestown, county Roscommon. The course starts at 9.30 on the Saturday, costs €170 and includes 2 lunches, 1 dinner, breakfast and copious snacks and cups of warming tea (hopefully we won't need it) to be provided by Kay Mole in the organic, vegetarian style that she knows best. We would love to accomodate all of you at the farm (and in due course we hope to be able to) but for now we will supply some names of local B&B's and hotels that are all quite reasonably priced. Email finloughfarm@gmail.com, or call 0874124254 to book your place (strictly limited to 15) or to make further enquiries.
