Today’s best bread…tomorrow!! @The Hopsack Healthstore

Fresh Bread returns to the Hopsack healthfood store

So a major news flash that should have been aired before Christmas was the folding of Blazing Salads Bakery, and the subsequent glum faces on their many loyal customers. Â But it being the festive season we couldn’t quite bring ourselves to spread such woeful tidings. Â Indeed the news proved a little less devastating when we found out that it wasn’t the entire company going under and that the two brothers, Joe and Martin are back in the cafe, baking away. Â It must be a little cramped, what with 4 brothers and sisters working from under the same roof – but we’re no strangers to family business here in The Hopsack.

So once we recovered from the shock we turned our attention to finding new bakers which could service our (and your) high standards. After a bit of work we’ve come up trumps with two new offerings,  firstly Morning Star Bakery, a small artisanal bakery, producing a wonderful range of sourdough and yeasted spelt and wheat offerings from which we have chosen to stock the Multigrain Sourdough, and the Spelt with Honey pan.  Both are sliced, to save us sticking our delicate digits into retrieve hopelessly wedged chunks of burnt dough from our toasters, and have a light crumb, especially impressive in the case of the sourdough.

Our other new baking buddies are Moyglass bakery, having all the skills in sourdough leavens that comes with 2 generations and 26 years in business. Â Their breads are wonderfully dense, nutritious loaves that reveal all their beauty when introduced to a piece of smoked goat’s cheese and a dash of relish, imparting that wonderful sourdough aroma with real bite that we would have been used to from the Blazing Salads range. Â This company is serious about what they do, and Paul Illien is turning out some wonderful breads. Â We are stocking their spelt sourdough, rye sourdough, wheaten multigrain sourdough, and a fruitcake they have developed with no added sugar. Â Tasting tomorrow morning, Friday 04/02/11 in The Hopsack healthstore, so come on in!!
