Bensa Kokosa coffee is produced in the Sidamo appellation, about 400 km south of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia. The farmers work small plots, covering a few hectares at most on fertile volcanic soils, which give the beans their bright character. The coffee is often grown alongside other food crops. The cherries are harvested by hand only.

The Bensa washing station, located deep within the Sidamo highlands, produces fully-washed coffee Bensa Kokosa. This coffee is dried on African beds ensuring optimum ventilation. All Moplaco coffees are processed at Addis Ababa where Heleanna Georgalis, her team and our representatives in Ethiopia are on hand to ensure that standards are met during this crucial step. Moplaco has been managed for about ten years by Heleanna, a woman with a singular background whose strength and character are no doubt reflected in the coffees she produces.

This exporter, based in Addis Ababa, also manages a community of farmers in rural areas and closely monitors each step of the coffee’s preparation. Heleanna and her teams prepare a fully-washed coffee at the Bensa washing station. The cherries are collected from small farmers who grow their coffee on the Kokosa mountain, located in the immediate vicinity of the station.

This coffee works great brewed as a filter coffee and in terms of aroma and flavour profile, you can expect notes of raspberry, caramel and bergamot.
